Dorchester detention center employee accused of stealing $80K

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Dorchester County Detention Center employee was arrested by State Law Enforcement Division agents Friday after being accused of stealing over $80,000 from the facility.

According to a release from SLED, 44-year-old Lillian Thomas, of Walterboro, was charged with one count of breach of trust over $!0,000 for her connection to the missing detention center deposits.

Thomas faces a 10-year prison sentence and fines up to $500 if she is convicted.

She was also charged with misconduct in office, SLED agents said, a charge that carries one year in prison and a $1,000 fine if she's convicted.

Thomas is being held in the Dorchester County Detention Center.

SLED agents were called in to investigate the missing money by the sheriff's office, the release states.
