Downtown Charleston shooting suspect surrenders

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The man believed by police to be involved in a Jan. 7 shooting in downtown Charleston surrendered to police on Friday.{}

Antwone Smith, 26, was charged with first-degree assault and battery. He is currently being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center, police said.

According to police, the shooting happened around 12:30 p.m. in front of a Columbus Street business. Smith entered the business and told the shooting victim to step outside, police said.{}

Once there, the two people got into an argument which led to Smith shooting the other man in the buttocks, police said.{}

Police are still investigating the incident.{}
