FLORENCE, S.C. (AP) - Dozens of fires in the Pee Dee this fall have affected more than 100 people.
The Morning News of Florence reports that since Nov. 1, there have been 43 residential fires in the seven-county region leaving 130 people homeless, at least temporarily.
Linda Boone-Smith with the Pee Dee chapter of the American Red Cross says the agency's first priority is housing for the victims. Some victims also need food, clothing and medication.
Areas hospitals have counselors who can help fire victims. Janet Watt is a counselor with McLeod Health and says a fire is like a death in the family and the victims must grieve.
