Fiancee searching for answers in Dorchester County murder

GIVHANS, S.C. (WCIV) A Moncks Corner woman is pleading for information in the murder of her once-missing fiance who was found dead last week in nearby Givhans.

Devonna Huff is struggling to piece together what life will be like without the California man she has loved for the past five years, 24-year-old Drew Shumway.

"That's what people don't realize is that he's my other half. I think now after all of this, I think people need to realize you don't know what you got until it's gone," said Huff. {}

She says she last saw and spoke to her fianc on April 5.

"The last conversation with him, he said he was dropping some people off and he'd be home in 30 minutes. He said he loved me, I said I loved him. That's the last time I talked to him," said the 22-year-old woman. {}

Huff said he never came home and immediately she knew something was wrong.

The next day, she filed a missing persons report with the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.{} She also made flyers to help spread the word of Shumway's disappearance.

"I was miserable, because I already knew. I kept checking my phone, kept calling his phone and it would go to voicemail. I called and called every single day, every single hour," said Huff. {}

Last Friday, the body of Shumway was discovered in a trailer in Givhans -- an area Huff is convinced her fianc was taken. Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nesbit says Shumway was shot once in the back of his head.{}

"Someone had to have seen something; someone has to know something. I'm just begging them to let us know. It's not fair to Drew. Drew didn't deserve what happened to him," said Huff. {}

If anyone has any information on the murder of Drew Mitsuo Shumway, please call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
