SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV)-- A 49-year-old eighth grade teacher at Dubose Middle School faced a judge and his victim Saturday morning, charged with inappropriately touching one of his 14-year-old students.

When asked by the judge if he was employed, William Albert Gould Brown said no. Dorchester District Two spokesperson Pat Raynor has said that the eighth grade English teacher was recommended for termination.

The affidavit states the incident happened on Wednesday May 9 at the school. It states that Brown "told the minor child to return to his classroom during a later period to engage in sexual acts with him." The report also says that while Brown touched the girl, he was "whispering in her ear that she turned him on."{}

When asked by the judge if he had anything to say Brown stated "I know the truth's gonna come out." He also said he and his wife had arranged for an attorney. The mother of the victim spoke and said that her daughter saw Brown as a father figure. She also said that the unwanted attention had been going on all year but escalated at the end because the victim would be leaving for high school."She thought the world of him," she said " and he betrayed her trust."The grandmother of the victim said she had suspected that Brown's attentions were inappropriate before but the victim had defended him.

"And then she came home and I heard about this, she cried all night about this," the grandmother said as the tearful victim seated next to her accepted tissues from the bailiff and dried her eyes. "So yes, the truth will come out."Friends of the defendant also came forward and touted Brown's passion for teaching and the connection he had with his students.

Brown is charged with criminal solicitation of a minor and assault and battery in the second degree. He was given $40,000 bond.
