      Avondale kicks off first "Restaurant Week"

      CHARLESTON, S. C. (WCIV) - Terrie and Donnie Johnson have spent countless evenings enjoying dinner at Avondale restaurants. Monday night{}was a little better than the rest because they got the same great taste for half the price.

      "Three for $20 is fantastic, it is. I mean, we come here and we don't mind spending the money on a regular night and buying and getting our food but, this is just great that their offering these kinds of meals," said Terrier Johnson.

      Five Avondale eateries are hosting the first-ever Avondale Restaurant Week.

      "We've got a really diverse group of restaurants over here and a nice local base clientele, so we wanted to offer something special for everybody over here," said Craig Nelson, bar manager at Pearl Little Oyster Bar. "We're offering a choice of 3 - an appetizer entree and dessert. And, we've got 3 selections in each one. Some examples: we've got an eggplant bruschetta, a little fried calamari, or you can get shrimp and grits or clams and chorizo and the chefs cooking up some really good desserts each night."

      Avondale restaurant managers decided to host their own restaurant week, aside from Charleston's restaurant week. The idea was to lure customers looking for a neighborhood feel.{}

      "Hopefully introduce a lot of people to our restaurant who wouldn't normally have come here," said Nelson.

      Even for outsiders, the Johnson's say the meal deal is worth the trip.

      "A lot of people say the traffic and the parking is not good here but, if you try it, you'll be back," said Terrie.

      Avondale restaurant week will go on until Sunday at Triangle Char and Bar, Mellow Mushroom, Al Di La, the Roost and Pearlz Little Oyster Bar.{}
