GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) -- Officials responding to a car accident early Thursday morning found the body of a man who had apparently been shot to death.{}

According to Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury, an EMS crew responded to Lindy Creek Road in around 1:30 a.m. Thursday.{}

Salisbury identified the victim as 23-year-old Darrell R. Allen of Goose Creek.

The coroner's office and Goose Creek police are investigating the death as a homicide.

Goose Creek police said officers responded to the 200 block of Lindy Creek Drive after receiving reports of a car in a ditch in front of a vacant home. Inside the vehicle, the officers found Allen had been shot multiple times.{}

Officers found a plastic bag with a white, powdery substance in it outside the vehicle, a police report states.{}

Almost six hours later, David Chavis walked into the Goose Creek Police Department with a gunshot wound to his right arm. Officers believe Chavis was in or near the vehicle at the time of the shooting.

However, officers have not been able to figure out Chavis' involvement in the shooting.{}

Chavis was taken into custody on a firearm violation, police said. A bond hearing is pending.{}
