MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) -- The Diocese of South Carolina, the conservative Episcopal Diocese in the eastern and lower part of the state that separated from the church in 2012, is set to meet in Mount Pleasant.
The 223rd annual convention of the diocese that dates to colonial times is scheduled to begin its meeting on Friday. It continues on Saturday.
Bishop Mark Lawrence says that several important issues will be considered during a Saturday business meeting, including clarifying the structure of the diocese after leaving The Episcopal Church.
Lawrence says the diocese is welcoming two new congregations - Grace Church Waccamaw in Pawley's Island and Grace Parish in North Myrtle Beach. A third congregation is also forming in the diocese, Resurrection church in North Charleston.
