HARDEEVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Hardeeville Police Chief Sam Woodward says state investigators have found some missing evidence in a 2011 killing.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported (http://bit.ly/WQXZJr) that Woodward says the evidence found by the State Law Enforcement Division has prompted officials to reopen the investigation earlier this year.
Woodward says SLED has nearly completed its review of the killing of 24-year-old Joseph Kilpatrick of Pineland in Jasper County.
Woodward says SLED's report will be sent to the local prosecutor. Officials would not say how the evidence was lost.
Kilpatrick was shot and killed by masked intruders at an apartment complex in Hardeeville.
Prosecutor Duffie Stone asked SLED to reopen the case in April to determine if there was an improper relationship between the lead investigators and two suspects in the case.
