Family Circle accepting applications for ball crew
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Applications are now being accepted for adult and junior ball crew members for the 2012 Family Circle Cup.
In it's 40th consecutive year, the Family Circle Cup is scheduled for March 31 through April 8 at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Daniel Island.
Tournament officials say ball crew volunteers are essential to its success. More than 200 adults and juniors, ages 11 and up, are sought.
"The Family Circle Cup is dependent on the help and dedication from its ball crew volunteers," said Eleanor Adams, Family Circle Cup Tournament Manager. "Our biggest need is for ball crew volunteers during the first five days of the tournament because of the largest quantity of early round matches."
An informational parent meeting will be held at 12:30 pm on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the Family Circle Stadium, at 161 Seven Farms Drive, Daniel Island. The first practice will immediately follow the parent's informational meeting on center court. Weekly Ball Crew training sessions will be held at the Tennis Center from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm every Saturday from February 25 - March 24. A final, mandatory training session will be held on Friday, March 30.
All participants are needed at the Family Circle Cup (Saturday, March 30 - Thursday April 5, 2012). An All-Star Team will be selected based on ability, performance and attitude for the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals, April 6 - April 8, 2012.
