DANIEL ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Hard-hitting tennis action is back and in full swing on Daniel Island. The Family Circle Cup women's tennis tournament kicked off this weekend and will run until April 8th.

Two of the premier competitors at this year's event are Venus and Serena Williams. But aside from tennis, the Family Circle Cup is also offering a number of special activities in honor of their 40th anniversary.

"This is the year we are pulling out all the stops so we really invite the fans to come out and share in this wonderful week of tennis that we have planned for everyone," said Mike Saia, Communications Manager of Family Circle Cup.

Plans include decade theme nights starting on Tuesday, Military appreciation night on Wednesday, and special history exhibits in celebrating the 40th year of the tournament.

For the Santerfeit family from Atlanta, the Family Circle Cup is an experience they haven't missed for seven years straight.

"It's very family friendly, we really enjoy it. We've been coming here for years so it's a lot of fun," said Marvin Santerfeit.

"We come to Family Circle Cup every year because we enjoy tennis and we like to do the family activities," said Terry Santerfeit. "You get to go from stadium to stadium, court to court and see all the up and coming players and also get to see a peek of the pros in the background practicing a lot."

And if you missed out on the Mega Millions lottery jackpot, the Family Circle Cup might just make you a winner.

"On Monday, a very special event is going to happen," Saia said. "The one millionth fan is going to walk through our gates in Charleston and we're going to shower them with a 5 thousand dollar gift package."
