Fatal motorcycle accident closes Trolley Road

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident involving a motorcycle that happened just before 7 a.m. Friday.

The accident happened on Trolley Road in Summerville at the intersection of Savannah Round in front of Iron Gate subdivision.

The coroner has identified the deceased as 59-year-old Ronald Wayne Stewart of Summerville. Coroner Chris Nisbet said Stewart died of massive head trauma and multiple fractures.

According to a trooper with the SCHP, Stewart was traveling south on a Harley Davidson motorcycle on Trolley when a 1991 Chevy Blazer made a left onto Savannah Round from Trolley and failed to yield to the biker.

Trooper Sonny Collins said Stewart was not wearing a helmet and was killed. Trooper Collins did not have any information on what charges, if any, will be brought against the driver of the SUV.

Coroner Nisbet said Stewart was on his way to work and was only about a mile away when the accident happened.
