Father of teen hit by drunken driver: 'I'm not feeling very forgiving'

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) -- The father of a hit-and-run victim talked Tuesday night about anger and forgiveness after his daughter was hit by a car.

The 14-year-old girl and her friend had just left a church gathering Sunday evening when the girl was hit by a car driven by a drunken driver, police said.

On Tuesday, the girl's father learned that the man behind the wheel is a firefighter for Joint Base Charleston.

"He is a person that would respond to a person in need. And he hit my daughter and left her for dead in the middle of a ditch. And I don't think I could see this guy right now," said Davidson Arzon, the victim's father.

Arzon is having a tough time understanding what happened to his young daughter on Sunday as she walked along Camelot Road in Goose Creek.

Investigators said Ariana Arzon was struck by a car driven by Robert Semashko. Police say he never stopped and had been drinking before the accident.

"I can forgive that he was out drinking. But I can't forgive that he was a first responder and kept on going. That I'm having much trouble with," Arzon said.

Jameson Walker saw the accident happen and ran to the teen girl's aid.

"I saw the car hit her. That's when she like actually kind of flew into the ditch. And that's when the car took off,"{} Jameson Walker said.

Walker and his brother, Austin, saw the whole thing from their home they said.

"The paramedics got her in a neck brace and put her on a stretcher and picked her up and took her away," Austin Walker said.

For now, the victim's family is searching for forgiveness as young Ariana Arzon recovers.

"That's what my Lord Jesus says to do. Forgive. But me right now as a man I'm not feeling very forgiving," Mr. Arzon said.

Ariana Arzon will undergo an MRI this week because she is having trouble walking.

As for the investigation, police say the suspect's wife was also in the car and the two initially lied about who was driving.
