JOHN'S ISLAND, S. C. (WCIV) -- The holiday season is just around the corner and as the season of giving draws near, the Sea Island Alliance Ministries hosted its 6th Annual Feed the Multitude event Saturday.

The organization served nearly 2,000 plates of turkey with all of the fixings at St. John's Parish Church.

"It means a lot to get a very nice meal. It was so good," said Alethia Blake, who received a meal.

The nonprofit is an alliance between 29{} churches on Wadmalaw Island and John's Island.

The event kicked off with praise and worship to celebrate the largest annual community fellowship.

"It's a love feast. We come together to show our love through food, prayer, entertainment and just being together," said Claudia Boyce, director of the event.

Fran Green said it's that belief that keeps the food hot and satisfying to the stomach and to the soul.

"Just like you need a healthy body to live, you need a healthy soul to live as well," said Green.

The Sea Island Alliance Ministry also fed the local fire department, made takeout meals for immobile community members and made special plates for veterans.
