KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Firefighters rushed early Friday morning to a home on Kiawah Island and arrived to find heavy smoke and flames through the roof.
One firefighter suffered a minor injury and units remained on scene for much of the morning following a partial collapse at the home, according to Chief James Ghi with the St. Johns Fire Department.
Officials say multiple aerial units were used to knock down the fire at the two-story home on Rhetts Bluff Road. Fire damage is at the back of the home, primarily on the second floor an attic. The rest of the home has suffered water damage due to the need to utilize master stream devices, according to Ghi.
The initial emergency call was made around 1:30 a.m.
A resident and two dogs escaped without injury. There's been no word yet on what started the fire.
The St. Johns Fire Department, Charleston Fire Department, Charleston County Sheriff's Office and Kiawah security responded to the fire.
