First H&M store in SC opens on King Street

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- If you still haven't done all of your Christmas shopping, have no fear, H&M is here. The global retailer opened its doors at 281 King Street at noon on Thursday. H&M is one of the world's largest fashion retailers and is known in the fashion world for their affordable prices and trendy wear.The King Street store is the first H&M store in South Carolina. The company says they have a total of 306 stores in the U.S. and around 3,000 stores worldwide.At H&M's newest shop on King Street, eager shoppers showed up to wait in line for the doors to open just after 5 a.m.The first 300 shoppers in line received a free H&M T-shirt and giveaways including fashion passes that are valued anywhere between $10 to $300. For the second customer in line, Daniel Flack, he says it's worth standing in the cold to be one of the first people in the new store."The convenience is just really cool. It describes how unique and cool and eclectic our city is becoming," he said. "It's the perfect store. It is the best way to make a statement about yourself.""This is my Black Friday," said the first shopper in line arriving just after 5 a.m. "Charleston is becoming a fashion Mecca. We have our fashion week here so this is going to be part of that and you can come down here and get something you see at a fashion magazine at a decent price. Retailers are finally saying Charleston is the place to be."

The King Street location has clothing collections for ladies, men, young ladies and young men, with separate "store within store" sections for accessories, lingerie, and cosmetics.

Next Fall, H&M will open its second Charleston area location at Tanger Outlet.
