ORALANDO, Fla. (WCIV) - The ClemsonTigers were not the only ones to book a trip to Florida this January. The South CarolinaGamecocks played the Wisconsin Badgers on Wednesday in Orlando.
For South Carolina, being in such a dominantconference hurt them in making a BCS bowl game. They did beat Clemson and theironly losses came at the hands of Georgiaand Tennessee.
And on New Year's Day, theyplayed a good game at the Capital One Bowl.
It was a final game for starslike Connor Shaw, Bruce Ellington and Jadeveon Clowney, and the Badgers madefor a tough opponent. They were ranked eighth in the country in rushing.
Head coach Steve Spurrier andthe Gamecocks were looking to repeat history from two years ago. While South Carolina went up early 13-7, Wisconsin managed to take a one-point leadheading into the half.
But the second half was more ofthe same for the Gamecocks, with Ellington and Jerrell Adams scoring on passplays before Shaw runs one in himself.
Shaw threw for three touchdownsand rushed for one more. Skai Moore put an exclamation point on the game, making an interception to close the door on Wisconsin's chances.
South Carolina wins 34-24. Spurrier wasthrilled to pick up another bowl win.
"Sometimes we have good guyswho get shaky. But not these guys," he said, nodding to Shaw and Ellington. "Keyguys like the tough situation in close games."
