First Folly Friday kicks off Easter weekend

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCIV) -- There is something new at Folly Beach this spring called Folly Fridays.

This new series of events, which got started during the last Friday in March, was set up by the Folly Association of Business to help kick off a good spring and summer season.

"It's kind of something that all of the restaurants and bars are doing out here," said John Benton, manager of Rita's Seaside Grille.

{}And all of the businesses are excited about it since it can only be a good thing for business.

"We know a busy season is coming up. Our locals are excited to get back out, try new things with all the restaurants and bars and we want to take care of them but also the other people that are in town visiting, give them something to do," said Benton.

This tight-knit community is also eager to prove that even though you can't drink on the beach anymore, it's still a great beach for locals and tourists alike.

"We want to start out on a positive foot, welcome everybody out here, get the same people out here, it's still a great place, it's still a lot of fun -- families, college kids, whatever, it's still Folly," he said.

Folly Fridays will take place every Friday through May 10 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
