Folly hits the big 4-0

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (WCIV) -- Folly Beach celebrated its birthday this weekend. The Edge of America has hit the big 4-0.The beach town celebrated with a 30-thousand dollar event called "40 Years 0f Folly."The party shut down a portion of Center Street.There was a Ferris wheel and carousel for the kids and some people even took to celebrating at the beach.Mayor Tim Goodwin says the town isn't what it was four decades ago, but he says that's a good thing."It's always good to see a town grow and prosper," he said. "And as everyone alluded to (Friday) night in all the speeches from the politicians, it's changing. But that's a good thing because that's what it takes to make the town grow and make it viable. Even though nobody likes change a lot, but that's what it takes to keep going."The party continued into Sunday with more carnival rides and a car show. The event wrapped up with a concert by the Tams.
