Former Charleston firefighter accused in murder-for-hire plot
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A former City of Charleston firefighter is accused of trying to hire an undercover cop to kill his wife.
A spokesperson for the Charleston Police Department says 41-year-old Edward Clinton Jones, of Asheboro Place Drive in West Ashley, was arrested Tuesday and charged with solicitation to commit murder.
The arrest is the result of an undercover operation orchestrated by the Charleston Police Department in which Jones solicited an undercover officer to murder his wife for $10,000, according to officials.
Officials say Jones retired from the Charleston Fire Department after 19 years of service.
The investigation is ongoing.
