Former fireman's lawsuit alleges slander, age discrimination
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A long time Charleston firefighter has filed a lawsuit against his former department.
William Blanton accused the department of discrimination, harassment and slander in a suit filed in Charleston court this week.
According to court papers, Blanton says he was passed over for several promotions because of his age. He says the department also passed him over because of the way he handled a 2011 fire on Daniel Island.
After the fire, Blanton said he suffered from anxiety and depression. The former fire captain claims he was then fired for being unable to return from sick leave.
