Former Moncks Corner officer charged in sexual exploitation case
MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) - State police officers onThursday arrested a former Moncks Corner police officer and charged him with 20counts of second-degree sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to a release from the State Law EnforcementDivision, 44-year-old Robert Carlton Shirer could face a sentence of up to tenyears in prison if convicted.
Affidavits show Shirer was distributing and exchanging childpornography through a file sharing network. The affidavit shows the illegalmaterial was sent over the file sharing network between July and August of thisyear.
The case was investigated by the Internet Crimes AgainstChildren, the Greenwood, Ind., Police Department and the BrevardCounty, Fla., Sheriff's Department.
The South Carolina Attorney General's Office will prosecutethe case.
