Former SC treasurer faces DUI charge in New York

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. (WCIV) -- Thomas Ravenel, a former South Carolina treasurer, was arrested and charged with drunken driving in East Hampton, N.Y., early Monday morning, according to local news reports.

According to the East Hampton Star, Ravenel was pulled over at Montauk Highway and Stephen Hand's Path at 2:30 a.m. after officer saw him swerving between lanes and driving on the shoulder of the road.

He would not consent to a Breathalyzer test either, the newspaper reported.

The judge apparently asked about priors. His attorney in the matter disclosed the federal drug charges he faced in 2009, the report states.

Ravenel has been working recently to revive his political aspirations and has even been featured on a new reality TV show on the BRavo network.

According to the East Hampton Star, the judge set his bail at $750 but he said he only had access to $600 via ATM and $65 in his wallet, so his bond was dropped to $650.

He is reportedly due back in court Thursday.
