Fort Jackson to celebrate military retirees

FORT JACKSON, S.C. (AP) -- The Army's largest training installation is setting several days aside to celebrate military retirees and help them get information about healthy living.

Fort Jackson spokesman Pat Jones says the events begin on Thursday with a ceremonial salute to veterans at the headquarters building. Jones says the events are open to retirees from all military service branches.

There is a golf tournament scheduled for Friday and a health and benefits exposition on Saturday at the Solomon Center. Representatives from Moncrief Army Community Hospital, the South Carolina Department of Veterans Affairs and Fort Jackson officials will be available to answer questions from those attending.

Information will be available about health benefits, educational assistance and sport activities.

Special sales are on tap at the post commissary.
