Friday Football Frenzy: Scores, highlights, and more from Week 6

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- It's another Friday night in the Lowcountry and that means high school football has taken over the social media feeds and minds of most people.

Games are winding down and scores are coming in.

The games kicked off Thursday night with Berkeley and James Island. Berkeley 40-14 James Island

By David Shelton

JAMES ISLAND -- Few teams in the Lowcountry played a tougher non-region schedule than Berkeley did over the last month. That difficult schedule may have paid off Thursday night as the Stags evened their record at 3-3 with a 40-14 region 8-AAA win over James Island.

The win was Berkeley's second straight after beating Timberland last week. Berkeley's three losses this season came to Summerville, Stratford and Manning, who have combined for a 13-2 record through five weeks.

Stratford 28-26 Summerville

By Andrew Miller

GOOSE CREEK {}Three plays were all Stratford needed to change the momentum of the game Friday night against Summerville.

Trailing 20-7 early in the third quarter and facing a fourth-and-11 from its own 1-yard line, Stratford's modest one-game winning streak against Summerville appeared to be coming to an abrupt end.

But an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Summerville, a flick of the wrist from Knights quarterback Jacob Park and the strong hands of Stratford linebacker T.J. Deveaux completely turned things in Stratford's favor in less than 30 seconds.

Park threw for 325 yards and two touchdowns and Deveaux returned a fumble 22 yards for another score to lead Stratford past Summerville, 28-26, before a standing room-only crowd at Stackley Field on Friday night.

Goose Creek 48-7 Beaufort

By Stephen Fastenau

BEAUFORT{}{}The Beaufort High School football team had enjoyed the road for four weeks.

The routine. The bus rides. The victories.

The Eagles knew what awaited them back home and were excited for the challenge.

But Goose Creek, which has not lost to a South Carolina school since 2010, used its option run game to strike quickly and closed out the Eagles for a 48-7 victory.

"Beaufort's always a physical team," Goose Creek running back Caleb Kinlaw said. "We knew they were coming in to knock us off."
