Friends hold benefit concert Sunday for Nick Collins
AWENDAW, S.C. (WCIV) - Friends and family held a benefit Sunday for Nick Collins, the son of a former Mount Pleasant councilman who was critically injured in a car accident in early August.
The concert benefit featured 14 bands at Awendaw Green, including Fowler's Mustache where Nick was the lead singer.
Groups from the Sullivan's Island Volunteer Fire Department, Finz and Reds Ice House donated food and services to make Sunday's concert possible.
Proceeds will go to Nick Collins' Medical Benefit Trust Fund.
Collins, who had his legs run over by a semi truck, is out of a coma and is making a slow recovery.
"I think what they did when he first came out of the coma, they showed him a poster of the event and he mouthed, because he can't talk with the respirator, he mouthed 'I wanna go,'" said event organizer, Eddie White who is friends with Nick. "I don't think it worked, I hope they can skype with him here, that would be cool if he could see this. I bet they will."
This is the third benefit event for Collins. The next is on October 5. Musician Luke Cunningham will donate 100 percent of his album sales from now until October 1 to Collins' fund.
