Fuel spill causing traffic issues
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A portion of Cosgrove Avenue in North Charleston is closed after officials say fuel spilled in the area.
A member of the North Charleston Fire Department on the scene says a large fuel container fell off a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Cosgrove Avenue near the I-26 on-ramps.
According to North Charleston police, 100 gallons of diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway.
"The driver did not stop and it is unknown at this time what company or individual is responsible for the spillage," said NCPD spokesperson Spencer Pryor.
The Department of Health and Environmental Control is supervising the cleanup.
Pryor said crews arrived around 10:30 a.m. and cleanup is expected to take two to three hours.
One lane of Cosgrove Avenue and the on-ramp to I-26 eastbound are closed to traffic.
