Fundraiser for shrimper whose boat partially sunk in Shem Creek

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- The community is rallying behind a shrimper whose boat partially sunk in Shem Creek last month by hosting a fundraiser for him this weekend.

Rocky Magwood told ABC News 4 in an interview last month that if he could salvage his boat, the Lady Eva, he wasn't sure he could afford to fix it up.

Magwood said it was a devastating blow to his business after what was already a tough shrimping season.{}

"It's just heartbreaking to look back at something you've worked so hard to keep going this year and with all the struggles we've already had," he said. "Now we have another hill to go over."

The money raised at the fundraiser will go toward helping Magwood with repairs and possibly buying a new boat.

The fundraiser will be held at Triangle Char &{} Bar in Mount Pleasant. It starts at noon on Saturday and goes until 6 p.m.

For $25, you will get a wrist band for steamed oysters made by Magwood, and barbecue and sides courtesy of Carolina Pit Masters.

There will be music and a raffle as well.

If you can't make it to Saturday's fundraiser but would still like to help Magwood, there is a Rocky Magwood-Lady Eva fund set up at the Capital Bank at Johnnie Dodds Boulevard in Mount Pleasant.
