Gander Mountain gets jump on Bass Pro, opens this fall in North Charleston
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Another large outdoor specialty store is slated to open in North Charleston, just two miles from where Bass Pro Shops will be.According to a release from the Gander Mountain Company, based in St. Paul MN, their first South Carolina location will open this fall.Shoppers will be able to peruse a variety of outdoor merchandise including gear for hunting, fishing, camping, boating and archery and outdoor and casual clothing for both men and women.They also sell new and used firearms from around the country. Customers can order guns using online kiosks with delivery to the store."Gander Mountain has long been a well-known and trusted name among those who love the outdoors, and who enjoy great traditions like hunting, fishing, hiking, boating and camping," said David Pratt, Gander Mountain's Chairman and CEO. "We are thrilled to continue our national expansion with the announcement of our first South Carolina store, giving our friends in the Palmetto State new opportunities to experience our top-quality gear and knowledgeable service at great prices."Gander Mountain will take up 40,000 square feet in the Promenade at Northwoods, also known as Northwoods Marketplace across from Northwoods Mall on Rivers Avenue."As South Carolina's retail sales leader for 21 consecutive years, we are happy to welcome Gander Mountain to North Charleston's flourishing market, said Keith Summey, Mayor of North Charleston. "Gander Mountain will be an amenity to our residents and visitors, and we anxiously await its opening."Last year officials announced the arrival of another hunting and fishing retailer, Bass Pro Shops. That store will be just two miles away on Northside Drive. It's not scheduled to open until 2015.Gander Mountain's new store is expected to create up to 70 new jobs.
