Georgetown Co. 911 lines experience outage

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Georgetown{}County 911 lines were down for a short time while the company that maintains the lines performed an upgrade, officials said Friday morning.{}

The 911 lines were out of service for just under an hour.

Officials said people calling 911 might receive a busy signal or a recording that says the number is no longer in service.{}

"This is not the result of an upgrade," said Dan Page, a spokesperson with Frontier Communications. "This is an outage related to a software of translation program."

Page described "translation program" as meaning two types of software, for whatever reason, are not communicating with each other.

Frontier had a 911 coordinator in Myrtle Beach that helped with the issue.
