GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCIV) - The Georgetown distribution committee handed out more than $47,000 to fire victims in a meeting Tuesday.
The Front Street Fire Relief Fund committee agreed to give $27,000 to affected business owners to aid them as they try to reopen along Front Street.
According to the committee, several of the businesses have already found new homes on different parts of Front Street or are in the works to secure a new location. Many of the businesses anticipate being open by the Wooden Boat Show on Oct. 19.
The committee also handed out $15,000 to residents who lost their homes in the fire. The money is intended to help them with immediate needs.
The balance of the money will go to the 130 employees of the businesses who lost their jobs as a result of the fire.
To date, the First Citizens Bank in Georgetown has raised more than $73,000 for the fund. Before Tuesday's meeting, the committee handed out $17,500 to fire victims.
The committee has now handed out $65,000.
