MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Nearly 3,000 people are expected to get dirty on Saturday at Boone Hall Plantation. Getting muddy is the only requirement at the Rugged Maniac 5K Race at Boone Hall.
"We have an over 100 foot waterside, we have mud pits, there is no way you are not going to be walking over that finish line head to toe with a smile on your face," said Race Director Stewart Wall.
It's 3.1-mile race with 20 challenging obstacles and a whole lot of mud.
"It's always fun to see people break out of the everyday and do something different and this gives people the chance to do that," Wall said. "Whether you are watching or participating, it is so different than an ordinary race and ordinary road race."
At a Rugged Maniac race the dirtier you get -- the better.
"It's not necessarily all about speed, some of our racers are racing all out but most of our racers are out there working as teams running with friends and family just looking to have a good time."
Registration for the race is still open by signing up Saturday at the event. Rugged Maniac kicks off at 9 a.m. with waves of racers running until 2 p.m.
