Girls learn about STEM degrees at summer day camp

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Rising eighth and ninth grade girls got a look at what college might be like for them in a few years on Saturday as part of a day camp.SPAWAR Systems Center Atlantic hosted Girls Day Out, a summer day camp, at the College of Charleston.The girls and their parents learned about science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) degrees and admissions requirements.The days event's included a tour of the college, exhibits, hands-on STEM activities and meetings with women who have STEM-based jobs.About 50 students from various schools were expected to attend.
