Goodwill delivers gift bags to seniors in need

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) --{}The Christmas spirit was alive and well Tuesday at the Charleston Area Senior Citizens Services located on Meeting Street.

Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina delivered 300 gift bags to local disadvantaged seniors.

"We have a lot of folks here today receiving gifts who otherwise may not have a merry Christmas and we have a lot of gifts going out to those that are shut in and can't get to the senior center," local Goodwill president Robert Smith said.

The gift bags contain fleece blankets, towels, toiletries, socks, nonperishable foods and cold weather items, like hats and scarves.

"I use mine well. They are beautiful gifts for the winter," senior Jane Weston said.

Additional bags were distributed to disadvantaged seniors associated with Roper Hospice, Rural Missions, Inc. and the Trident Area on Aging.

"To be able to give back to our seniors who have been so instrumental in being mentors and parents and powerful influence on our community for years is just a wonderful feeling," Smith said.
