GOP candidates in 1st District meet in forum
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The Republican hopefuls for South Carolina's 1st Congressional District are scheduled to meet in a candidates' forum.
The event is slated for Saturday in North Charleston and is sponsored by the FreedomWorks organization. The group describes itself as working to advance individual liberty and constitutionally limited government.
Sixteen Republicans are running for the seat that was left vacant when Gov. Nikki Haley appointed former Rep. Tim Scott to the U.S. Senate. The group includes former Gov. Mark Sanford and Teddy Turner, the son of media magnate Ted Turner.
Two Democrats, including Elizabeth Colbert Busch, the sister of comedian Stephen Colbert, are also seeking the seat in the district along the state's south coast.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
