Gov. Haley addresses South Carolina Workforce Initiative

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) - Governor Nikki Haley was in Orangeburg today to talk about getting South Carolinians back to work.

A new local initiative called "Work-Keys" was the topic of discussion.{} The initiative calls communities across the state to work together to make sure people have the proper skills needed to get jobs.

People are then matched to jobs that are available.

"Every person in every community needs to get invested in their work ready community. Whether it's mentoring a student, helping with the graduation rate, whether it's a company that wants to invest in the commitment of it, whether it's just part of the public sector saying it's time to get these kids and adults going back to work," said Haley.

Haley joined the president of the South Carolina Manufacturers Alliance at a company called Zeus.

The Governor said the program will create opportunities for the private sector to work with the pubic sector.

Anyone interested in taking part in the program mus apply only.
