Ground breaking scheduled for Highway 165 project

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- Dorchester County officials have announced a ceremonial ground breaking for the Delmar Highway widening project.

The ceremony will be held at Ashley Ridge High School Jan. 28 at 10 a.m.

In an announcement Thursday, DD2 Public Information Officer Pat Raynor said while Hwy 165 has worked so far in the "once rural part of Dorchester County," the "explodingresidential growth" coupled with the opening of Ashley Ridge made the widening necessary.

"In addition,sports events and extracurricular activities at Ashley Ridge High bring largenumbers of the public to the school," said Raynor.

Funding for the project came from a $13 million award from the StateInfrastructure Bank.

South Carolina-based engineering firm, DennisCorporation, has been selected to design the road improvements.{} Construction is expected to begin in late2013.{}
