Haley calling attention to childhood cancer
COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - During the month of September, Gov. Nikki Haley is drawing South Carolinians' attention to cancers affecting children.
Haley has proclaimed September as "Childhood Cancer Awareness Month."
A proclamation issued by Haley recognizes the courage and compassion of children and families affected by cancer. Haley's office says the proclamation aims to raise awareness of cancer's devastating effects and the need for continued research into understanding and finding a cure.
Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease of children and adolescents in the U.S. Haley's office says it's estimated that 11,600 children under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer this year.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press.
