Haley calls on legislators to pass ethics reform

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Nikki Haley is urging South Carolina legislators to send her an ethics reform bill that restores public trust in government.

The Republican governor issued a warning Wednesday, saying she will publicly expose any lawmaker who opposes or attempts to stall the bill.

A Senate version of a bill that passed the House in May will be up for debate on the Senate floor when the Legislature returns in January.

Haley says she'll travel the state over the coming weeks to push for passage.

The state Democratic Party blasted Haley as being a hypocrite when it comes to ethics.

Haley says she speaks from experience in wanting gray areas of the law defined and ending the practice of legislators investigating their colleagues. She says that benefits politicians and the public.
