Haley discusses funding reform with educators

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Nikki Haley met with school administrators from across South Carolina as part of continued talks on education funding reform.

Haley spokesman Rob Godfrey said the Republican governor met Thursday with more than 30 superintendents and other administrators in Columbia.

Godfrey called it an open discussion on how to help both rural and urban school districts.

The meeting is part of a dialogue Haley requested in her State of the State address in January and followed a meeting earlier this week with five legislators of both parties. That was her third meeting with legislators since January on public school funding.

Godfrey says Haley will unveil a plan by year's end.

Conversations on overhauling education funding formulas started decades ago. But legislators have applauded Haley for reaching out and getting involved.
