Haley meeting to discuss SC beach biker rally
ATLANTIC BEACH, S.C. (AP) -- Gov. Nikki Haley is scheduled to sit down with Atlantic Beach leaders to discuss the motorcycle rally the governor says should be shut down following a rash of violence during this year's event.
The Atlantic Beach Bikefest attracts thousands to the small seaside community every Memorial Day weekend. During this year's rally, there were eight shootings along the Grand Strand, including three people who were shot and killed at a motel in Myrtle Beach 14 miles away.
Haley meets with local leaders on Tuesday morning.
Atlantic Beach Mayor Jake Evans has said there have been no problems in Atlantic Beach proper and he has no plans to end the event. He says he is willing to discuss the need for more law enforcement in neighboring areas during the weekend.
