COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Nikki Haley met with several dozen teachers from across South Carolina to get their input on education funding reform.
The Republican governor says she appreciates teachers' candor during Thursday's closed-door meeting. Haley says topics stressed by teachers included the importance of reading, technology and training.
The teachers came from rural and urban schools and across grade levels.
The meeting continued a dialogue on public school funding Haley requested in her State of the State address in January. She's met several times since then with legislators. The governor also met with a group of school administrators in May.
Haley says she plans weekly meetings through the rest of the summer. She hopes to unveil a plan by year's end.
Legislators have been talking about overhauling education funding formulas for decades.Copyright 2013 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
