COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- Nineteen people have been arrested in the Carolinas as part of a two-year investigation into gun and drug crimes.

U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles said Thursday the suspects are from North and South Carolina and are either members or associates of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang. Specifically, Nettles dais the arrests were made of alleged members or affiliates of the Rock Hell City Nomads.

Nettles says agents served nearly two dozen search warrants on Thursday, recovering a wide variety of drugs and more than 100 firearms, including two automatic machine guns.

Prosecutors say the men and women sold drugs, laundered money and committed arson as members of the motorcycle gang. They're also accused of selling weapons they knew would be used in crimes.

The suspects face charges including racketeering, conspiracy, money laundering and drug violations. It wasn't immediately clear if they had attorneys or when they'd appear in court.

"Today's arrests and seizures are an important step in our ongoing fight against criminal gangs operating in South Carolina. This investigation is also another example of what can be accomplished through a close partnership among local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies," Nettles said.

Agencies involved in the joint effort were{}were the Federal Bureau of Investigation-Columbia and Charlotte Field Divisions, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Lexington County Sheriff's Department, Lexington Police Department, Rock Hill Police Department, York County Sheriff's Office, Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, State Law Enforcement Division, Gastonia, Police Department, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Gaston County Sheriff's Office and North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
