Heritage over, course clubhouse being replaced
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Now that Matt Kuchar has won the Heritage, the work is beginning on replacing the Harbour Town Golf Links' clubhouse on Hilton Head Island.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports (http://bit.ly/1gN3Cev ) the aging 11,000 square foot clubhouse is being replaced with a new 18,000-square-foot clubhouse.
The new clubhouse is to be open in time for next spring's tournament. The $20 million clubhouse will have 150 lockers, a steam room and a sitting area for the 100 or so tour golfers who play in the Heritage.
It will also have an art gallery and a restaurant.
The new clubhouse is part of an ongoing effort to improve facilities at Sea Pines Plantation. Resort owners have spent more than $50 million on upgrades in recent years.
