Hilton Head Airport changes to make travel easier
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) -- A planned $2 million upgrade at the Hilton Head Island Airport will address a problem that's been affecting passengers for the past decade.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports that changes in security required after the 2001 terror attacks meant that airport passengers could not get to rest rooms after they passed through security checkpoints.
That issue will finally be resolved with a planned airport expansion that will include more seating, more security areas and restrooms beyond the security checkpoint.
An airport official said that after 9-11, it had to make the security changes with what space was available, cutting off passengers who passed through security from the rest rooms.
