HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - A proposal that could put a college campus on Hilton Head Island will go before town council, even though some residents don't like the idea.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reports the University of South Carolina Beaufort wants a building for hospitality students. An estimated 300 students would attend classes.
Town Manager Steve Riley says it's a way of redeveloping the area with year-round uses. Some local residents worry it will mean too much traffic.
The Town Public Facilities Committee agreed Thursday to send three proposals to Town Council.
All have a park, children's museum and green space. One adds the campus building and retail space. The second adds just the campus while a third would just include a parking lot.
