Hincapie taking part in SC charity bike ride

AWENDAW, S.C. (AP) - Tour de France cyclist George Hincapie is taking part in a bicycle ride to benefit South Carolina cancer charities.

Organizers say Hincapie is taking part Sunday in the Jerry Zucker Ride for Hope through the Francis Marion National Forest.

Hincapie is a Charlotte native who now lives in Greenville. He's been a professional cyclist for 19 years.

Over the last five years, the ride has raised more than $500,000. That money supports organizations including The Hollings Cancer Institute, Roper St. Francis Cancer Center and Camp Happy Days.

This year, participants can pick from a 100K ride, a 30-mile ride and a 10-mile, family friendly "cruiser ride" for all ages.
