Horry County targets gun manufacturers

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - After attracting two gun manufacturing companies in recent months, Horry County economic development officials say they are working to bring more gun manufacturers to the area.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that Myrtle Beach Economic Development Corporation president Brad Lofton says a delegation from the county will be in Las Vegas in January attending the SHOT show.

The show is billed as the largest trade show and conference for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting accessories industry.

Earlier this year, PTR Industries announced it was locating in the county and on Wednesday, Ithaca Gun Company of Ohio said it will open a $7 million operation near Aynor.

Lofton adds the county is in competition with Houston for a plant to be built by Stag Arms.
