House explodes in Lancaster County; no one injured

LANCASTER, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a house explosion in Lancaster County was so violent that people as far as 10 miles away called 911.

Investigators say the house near Lancaster was empty when it exploded just after midnight Friday. No one was injured, but fire officials say at least five nearby homes had some damage from the concussion and the fireball.

Operators took dozens of 911 calls from all over the county.

Lancaster County Fire Marshal Stephen Blackwelder says the explosion may have been caused by natural gas, but the investigation is continuing.
