Ice bucket challenge raises money, awareness for ALS
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) - The ice bucket challenge is sweeping through social media and people are choosing to have a bucket of ice water dumped on their head or make a $100 donation to the ALS Association.
In downtown Charleston during Second Sunday, one local restaurant joined the fight against ALS and got iced, too.
"We are going to be donating a portion of our sales today at Second Sunday to the Pete Frates Foundation," said Mellow Mushroom General Manager Karen Tassinari.
But the staff at the King Street location didn't get away with just a cash donation. The crew lined up in the middle of King Street to take the plunge, which worked out to be a perfect way to cool down on a hot and humid summer day.
But participating in the challenge means the ability to choose who gets doused next.
"Mellow Mushroom King Street now challenges Mellow Mushroom Avondale, Butcher and Bee and the Becket Agency," said Tassinari.
The three businesses have 24 hours to respond.
